The founders wanted their new synagogue to be more welcoming to all Jews, regardless of their wealth or status. The congregation established administrative offices at 241 Euclid Avenue; services and school classes were held at Coventry School in Cleveland Heights. Fisher produced automobile bodies, and in 1926 became part of the General Motors Corporation. During World War II the plant produced tank and gun parts and engine parts for airplanes, wartime employment totalling 14,000, including a large number of women. After the war the plant produced large stamping dies and upholstery and trim sets rather than auto bodies. General Motors closed the plant in 1983. (1868-1954) and Salmon P. Halle (1866-1949). It was located at 221 Superior Street near Public Square in Cleveland, Ohio. They purchased the business from Captain T. S. Paddock. In 1893 the business was moved to Euclid Avenue and East 4th Street due to a need for more space. It was also around this time that women's ready to wear clothing began to be carried by the store. In 1902 the company was incorporated, changing its name from Halle Brothers to The Halle Bros. Co. The store continued to grow, adding both space and departments. He was elected to the Ohio Senate, and in 1858, married Lucretia Rudolph. Garfield served in the Civil War, as a lieutenant-colonel of the 42nd Ohio regiment. He was a major general when he resigned in 1863 to take a seat in the United States House of Representatives, where he served for 17 years. In 1856 he married Mary Anne Elizabeth Fisher. They were active in many philanthropic enterprises, especially education. William Cumming Johnson was a major stockholder in the Tennessee Fiber Co. and had extensive real estate dealings in Florida. In 1877 he married Sarah Evangeline Harvey.
